Tatra Race Run 2021 - IDEA

Tatra Race Run 2021 is a new competition in the Tatra running calendar unique - because it combines history with the present. Tatra Race Run 2021 is a new competition in the Tatra running calendar - unique - because it combines history with the present. The organizers, inspired by the beautiful idea of the historical event - Chód Tatrzański - will invite runners from around the Poland and around the world to compete on the high mountain route as part of the WMRA Mountain Running World Cup.Tatra Race Run is the first competition of this rank in the Tatra Mountains, referring to the first running event in our history, which took place on August 15, 1925, i.e. almost 100 years ago. Chód Tatrzański was the first mountain run in the history of the Republic of Poland, held over a distance of 25 km with over 1,000 meters of elevation. The idea of organizing it should be attributed to the initiative of Stanisław Zdyb, a member of TOPR and the Polish Tatra Society, an experienced tourist, skier and mountaineer. Although the idea was fantastic and groundbreaking - such an event has not been repeated in Poland for over 70 years! All the more happy is the opportunity to bring back to life a forgotten episode from the history of our sport and at the same time to commemorate the then enlightened sports and alpine activists - Stanisław Zdyb, Wilhelm Stopowy and Andrzej Krzeptowski. The latter wrote in the pre-war press that "the special conditions of the Tatra Mountains enriched Polish sport, and the wonderful and difficult mountain areas ... could, with careful consideration of the matter and rational organization of the competition, be included in the best fields, which are forests and fields for every newer athlete. times ".

Tatra Race Run will take place on June 27, 2021. Competitors will have to cover a distance of24 kilometers and an elevation of 1700 meters. Its course, partly modeled on the historical route of the Tatra Mountains, will lead along the Tatra paths and ridges from Zakopane to Kościelisko. The competitors will run through the Kondracka Pass and Czerwone Wierchy to the Tomanowa Valley and the Hala Ornak, and then through the Iwaniacka Przełęcz, Starorobociańska and Chochołowska Valley to the finish line on Siwa Polana.

It is worth adding that the Tatra Race Run will take place as part of the Mountain Spirit festival (Moc Gór),scheduled for June 24-27, 2021 in Zakopane and Kościelisko. The organizers - the Mountain Film Meetings association - will prepare a selection of the best mountain films from around the world, lectures by Polish and foreign climbers, and workshops on climbing and alpine tourism.

The author of the text and photo montage used in the communication of the event is Jan Nyka.
